The Fraunhofer ISC develops material solutions for a wide variety of applications based on a unique combination of material, processing, application and analytical know-how. Illuminated LEDs on the upper edge of the mat indicate whether the helper is performing the cardiac massage correctly

Around 10,000 people in Germany die every year as a result of cardiovascular failure, although they could be saved. In such an emergency situation, only fifteen percent of Germans dare to help those affected with a cardiac massage. A new resuscitation mat is intended to make it easier for untrained first aiders to resuscitate them in the event of cardiac arrest. A team of Fraunhofer researchers developed the first aid tool with integrated sensors together with students from the Munich University of Applied Sciences.

Fully automated glass batch screening

A high-throughput screening system for the fully automatic melting of special glasses was designed and built at Fraunhofer ISC in 2011.
In order to produce new glass mixtures efficiently and inexpensively, the Center of Device Development CeDeD of the Fraunhofer ISC developed, designed and built the screening plant. The challenge was to be able to produce as many samples as possible under computer control so that the glass mixtures could be compared directly. The robot-supported automation of the entire process achieves the desired efficiency and thus also significantly reduces costs.

Fully automatic ball testing system

The Fraunhofer ISC's Center of Device Development CeDeD develops special systems for automated, high-precision testing, measurement and calibration of a wide variety of products.

At the Fraunhofer ISC, a fully automatic ball testing system was designed for non-destructive testing of the surface and shape of bearing balls. With the help of robots, the system records deviations in the production process and sorts out defective balls. The Fraunhofer ISC's ball testing system thus offers comprehensive quality control during production.
