International Conference on Non-Target Screening - ICNTS 2025

Meet us at the International Conference on Non-Target Screening (ICNTS) 2025, October 13–16, in Erding!

Presentation on October 13, 2025, from 5:30 p.m.:
Structured Metadata and Semantic Technologies for Enhanced Non-Target Screening: The OpenSemanticLab Approach

At the conference, Dr. Lukas Gold will present “OpenSemanticLab”, a semantic knowledge and data platform developed at Fraunhofer ISC specifically to meet the needs of analytical laboratories in the field of Non-Target Screening (NTS).

While NTS offers powerful capabilities for detecting unknown substances in diverse samples, associations within the data are often inaccessible due to fragmented data or missing metadata. By semantically modeling and storing data, new insights can be gained, while simultaneously improving the reproducibility and traceability of results in this complex measurement technology.

This is where OpenSemanticLab comes in:

  • FAIR Data & Semantic Technologies: Structured, machine-readable metadata across the entire laboratory process, from sample preparation to analysis.
  • “Uncertainty Search”: A novel approach that leverages measurement uncertainties and metadata to reliably identify substances across datasets and experiments.
  • Retrospective Analyses & Knowledge Graphs: More context and interoperability for sustainable lab digitalization and future-proof research.

Our development demonstrates how laboratory digitalization, data interoperability, and metadata management can enhance the reliability of substance identification and make analytical science more efficient.
