From September 24-26, 2019 the FachPack will take place in Nuremberg. The Fraunhofer ISC will participate at the booth of the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe in hall 7A booth number 437.
We present the new project Bio-Barrier-Films (BioBaFol), funded within the programme Renewable Resources of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Together with the project partners SKZ, Tecnaro, JenCAPS Technology and Südpack Verpackungen we are developing PLA-based films with special barrier properties for the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. An inorganic-bio-organic functional layer will improve the barrier effect of these films compared to conventional multilayer films. Such hybrid polymers are already used in numerous fields of application, for example in photo- and electrochromic, scratch- and abrasion-resistant or antistatic coatings. The outstanding barrier properties are now to be investigated for the use of food packaging and the flexible encapsulation of optoelectronic applications.
