Integrated passive and active optical devices are the key components in current and future data transfer technologies. The trend to miniaturize these diffractive or refractive integrated devices cannot be prevented anymore while, simultaneously, their complexity and functionality is continuously increasing. Thus, materials and processing techniques are required which enable a device fabrication from the cm down to the nm scale with high precision.
